Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries

Decomposing

(Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries Book 1)

Accepting a job inventorying a defunct music school in Cornwall, England seemed like a dream come true to newly divorced, empty-nesting Cin Fin-Lathen, whiskey-drinking music librarian of the Coconut Palms Community Band. Having her international travel and lodgings paid for, and the opportunity to spend time with her daughter, what could go wrong? How about being mistaken for a private detective, hired to find out who has been attacking the owner of said music school, being shadowed by a mysterious and handsome priest, or her hostess being shot before jet lag had started to set in?

Cin hits the ground running in the debut novel of the “Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries.”

Death by Saxophone

(Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries Book 2)

“Music has charms to soothe the savage beast.” Evidently William Congreve had not spent any time in Coconut Palms Community Band trying to make music. Cin Fin-Lathen finds out too late that she shares the dream of performing in a community group without musicians whose talent is eclipsed by their egos, with a serial killer. From the first beat of the baton, the main suspect is Cin herself, whose imaginary hit list is being poached. First, Carl the lead saxophonist is discovered by Cin onstage at intermission, followed soon by another thorn in Cin’s side.

Can Cin with the help of Harry O’Rourke solve the murders in time to save herself? Or will she too fall victim and face a “Death by Saxophone” in the second novel of the “Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries.”

Discord

(Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries Book 3)

A productive practice of the Coconut Palms Community Band has performer Cin Fin-Lathen in a wonderfully harmonic mood. That is until she arrives home to find out that Father Michael is missing. His aunt Diane, who has Cin pegged as a priest poacher, has hired her and Harry O’Rourke to find him. They pick up his trail in Savannah, Georgia where he has left clues for Cin to follow that lead them back to Palm Beach County’s migrant communities. Cin and Harry find that they are being watched by unsavory individuals as they race to find the missing priest and answers as to why he came to south Florida in the first place?

Cin and Harry, along with four military clerics, fight to stop terrorists hell-bent on bringing “Discord” to south Florida in this third novel of the “Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries.”

The Wages of Cin

(Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries Book 4)

“I always have the best of intentions but not always the right execution” ~ Cin Fin-Lathen.

It’s summer reunion-band season, and love is in the air. Cin is determined to break her dry spell in this much awaited fourth novel of the “Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries.” Elijah, the sexy lead singer of “Ely’s Coming,” has hired Cin and Harry to investigate a series of incidents that are sabotaging the comeback of his nineties alternative rock band. Cin’s son Alex is filling in for their injured bass player while she and Harry investigate. Cin lets her guard down and falls for a member of the band. Can she maintain a professional distance in order to figure out who wants to stop this band from performing?

Cin lets herself go and finds out to her horror that “The Wages of Cin” could quite possibly be death.

Unforgivable Cin: An Opera in Three Acts

(Cin Fin-Lathen Mysteries Book 5)

The theater lights blink, and the audience takes their seats. Reed Asylum enters the stage followed by Cin Fin-Lathen, costumed as Carmen. Cin is performing in a gala concert benefiting the Palm Beach Opera. The floorboards beneath her feet radiate with the spirits of long-gone sopranos and baritones. The opera audience is captivated by the spectacle before them. Cin as Carmen is being conducted by Kyle, a handsome, young, volatile genius. He only has eyes for her, but Cin isn’t interested.

Unbeknownst to Cin, she has been lured into the tragedy and comedy that is opera. She has attracted unwanted attention and is attacked and left for dead. After this traumatic event, she slips away from herself. Cin now depends on a protective inner personality, Bella, a diva who brings with her risky behavior. Cin is so changed that her family no longer recognizes the person she has become. Harry, however, refuses to give up on her.

“Unforgiveable Cin: An Opera in Three Acts” is a mystery within an opera. The characters’ actions are heightened as are those in many operas. This novel follows Book Four but isn’t the type of mystery that readers may be used to. Tragedy, comedy, seduction, and beautiful clothes emphasize the different world Cin Fin-Lathen and Harry O’Rourke have found themselves in. Put reality aside and enter Cin’s world as she tries to save herself while finding out who killed her in the first place.
